Ai-ya. It isn’t just straight people who can have babies. For goodness’ sake. Do I need to go into the details?* And it’s not like babies = marriage. This is such a BS argument, I hate it. You could make other ridiculous claims, like ‘If you hate murder, blame parents. They created the murderers in the first place.’ wtf? That’s a terrible argument, obviously!
This witty little comeback fails to address the main point, which is that heterosexism is shitty. Conveying that point somehow would be a lot better than being… well, heterosexist.
*Provided that you’re fertile, being attracted to the same gender doesn’t prevent you from reproducing. You might be able to do so with someone of the same gender, someone of a different gender, or someone who isn’t binary. (In other words: Being attracted to the same gender doesn’t mean you can’t be attracted to anyone outside that group; or, if you’re not, it doesn’t stop you from having sex with someone outside that group. And unless you’re cis and only willing to sleep with other cis people of the same gender, it doesn’t mean you can’t reproduce with someone of the same gender: Some women make sperm, some make eggs; ditto for men.) You can also make babies through assisted reproductive technology, from anything from using a turkey baster at home to going to an IVF clinic, where they might use IUI, ICSI, donor eggs, donor sperm, and/or gestational surrogacy.

Of course nothing on this sign said anything about all babies coming from straight people in marriages.  It also said nothing about people considering themselves to be gay not being allowed to have heterosexual relations or vice versa.  It strikes me a bit as picking a fight where one does not need to be made in criticizing this comeback.  It is very directly aimed at straight people who do not realize that non-heterosexual people will continue to exist regardless of the status of gay marriage.  Of course, this is coming from a straight man, so of course I can’t completely understand, but why see everything which doesn’t actively make a nod to all possible gender/sexuality configurations as a direct insult to them?
